NCTC delay increasing our risk from terrorists: PC

Days after CMs forced home minister P Chidambaram to take his NCTC plans back to the drawing board, Chidambaram on Friday said every day of delay in setting up the centre "was increasing our risk from terrorists."

Days after CMs forced home minister P Chidambaram to take his NCTC plans back to the drawing board, Chidambaram on Friday said every day of delay in setting up the centre "was increasing our risk from terrorists."

He also emphasised that the country needed institutional mechanism to deal with naxalism and insurgency in North-East, which were "becoming terrorist in nature".

The minister told the consultative committee of MPs attached to the home ministry that India needed to counter terrorism not just as a police operation but we need a counter-terrorism organisation that mobilises all elements of national power; diplomatic, financial, investigative, intelligence and police.

Chidambaram's remarks came days after the Centre faced strong opposition on setting up NCTC.
