The hall is built with all modern facilities such as good acoustics, wi-fi and seating arrangements. But this didn’t deter the opposition Congress to shout slogans and not allow the House meeting to proceed. Congress leaders were agitating against the alleged manhandling of its two councillors earlier this month by the ruling BJP councillors.

Shouting slogans against Mayor Rajni Abbi, the Congress and BJP councillors had a verbal fight and after about 20 minutes of sloganeering, the meeting was called off.

Ironically, just two hours before the agitation, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Tejender Khanna, had inaugurated the new meeting hall and said that “Healthy discussion should take place here and those in power should listen to the opposition before arriving at a decision,” he said. The inauguration was followed by a presentation on the e-governance scheme of the civic body.
