Technical faults that stalled a couple of new Bombardier trains within a few days of their commissioning have found their way into the learning modules of engineers and train operators joining the Delhi Metro.

The Metro has circulated these incidents as case studies in the e-learning syllabus of aspiring engineers and train operators. Delhi Metro has also got a new ‘full motion cab simulator’ to train train operators.
A train simulator generates a 3D computer image similar to the real-time operating environment of train, including signals, feed back and braking system. The new cab simulator is the one similar to the cabs of new Bombardier trains.
“We create about 250 unusual scenarios — such as different weather conditions, fire in the train, etc — to help trainers learn to handle through the simulator,” said Rupesh Kumar, principal, Delhi Metro Training Institute.
The Metro has added a new training block at its existing training institute in Shastri Park in east Delhi.
