NGOs link Yamuna Mess to sewage plants

The Citizen's Front for Water Democracy, Water Workers Alliance and Delhi Water Sewer & Sewage Disposal Employees Unions have alleged that the polluted river has proved that the public private partnership (PPP) model is a failure. They said "thousands of crores of tax payers' money is flushed as profits to private operators".
"DJB's 80% sewage treatment plants are under private operators but it fails to monitor the treated sewage quality as per the requirement of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act. The shifts at DJB labs for monitoring STPs run only for eight hours and there is no data available for the remaining 16 hours as the plants run 24X7," SA Naqvi of the Front alleged in a statement.
About 550 million gallons of sewage is treated at 20 treatment plants every day day.
