NGT issues environment damage notice for MV Rak

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notice to the Central Government, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Delta Shipping Marine Services of Qatar for sinking of Panama flagged cargo ship MV Rak off the coast of Mumbai in August.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notice to the Central Government, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Delta Shipping Marine Services of Qatar for sinking of Panama flagged cargo ship MV Rak off the coast of Mumbai in August.

The notice is regarding a petition filed claiming damages for reportedly environmental loss. The ship containing 60,000 tonnes of coal was headed to Gujarat from Indonesia and sunk near Mumbai coast.

A bench comprising of tribunal's chairperson's justice L S Panta Chairperson and expert member Vijai Sharma, issued the notice on Tuesday.
