Family members of Rishi Kumar, 19, had on Wednesday staged a road blackade claiming he was beaten to death after being tied to a lamp post in police station.

SSP Raghubir Lal, who first defended the policemen saying that the victim was beaten up by public and had died on way to a hospital, later placed nine policemen under suspension.

Three officers - SHO Avnish Gautam and two sub-inspectors Ajai Kumar and Avdesh Kumar - were transferred to police line.

The SSP has also written to Inspector General of Police, Meerut zone, Chander Prekash to conduct an inquiry.

A departmental inquiry will be conducted by circle officer, Sahibabd, Rajiv Kumar, officials said.
