Noida link road: SC turns down UP’s request
The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday turned down Uttar Pradesh (UP) government’s plea to immediately stop construction on a road link on 21 acres of its land.
The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday turned down Uttar Pradesh (UP) government’s plea to immediately stop construction on a road link on 21 acres of its land.
The Rs 334 crore project, undertaken by the Delhi government, requires widening of the road connecting the Commonwealth Games Village on the Yamuna belt to Noida.
Once the link becomes operational, it would provide uninterrupted connectivity between Mayur Vihar in East Delhi to Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.
The Mayawati government challenged a Delhi High Court order, which refused to entertain UP’s petition seeking to halt the project, in the SC.
In its petition, UP claimed a problem could arise if such “forced land acquisition” was allowed.
According to Delhi government, its neighbouring state had initiated the road-link project when Mulayam Singh was the UP chief minister.
“We are already many months behind schedule. As per the original schedule April 2010 is the deadline,” said a Delhi government official.
