Northeast helpdesks All over the campus
With the admission season in full swing, there are helpdesks in every nook and corner of North Campus. However, applicants from the northeast seem to be approaching only a select few for advice and help.
Faced with language problem and the insecurity of being in an alien city, students from the northeast seem more comfortable seeking help from their own people and so, are flocking primarily to counselling desks set up by the Naga Students’ Union, Delhi, and the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Delhi, in North Campus.
“Students hailing from our part of the country come to us more readily with their doubts and queries because they know that we will understand their problems better. Moreover, many are not fluent in either English or Hindi and this inhibits them from communicating their problems clearly to others,” said Lamtinthang Haokip, general secretary, Kuki Students’ Organisation, Delhi.
It is this reason why Daniel Ngamkhamlien, a student from Manipur, went to Haokip and his team on his very first day in North Campus. “I came here because they understand us better than the others. The counsellors here have helped me fill up my form and even advised which colleges I should seek admission in,” said Ngamkhamlien, who has applied for B Com (Honours) in colleges such as Shri Ram College of Commerce and Hansraj.
