“We know that there are many children who want to study but there are no schools in their areas. It is our honest endeavour to work towards building schools with proper infrastructure along with providing proper medical facilities, if we win in the elections,” said Neeraj Gupta, a BJP candidate.

While parties are promising development work to the extent of constructing new school buildings, computer-aided literacy centres and full implementation of the RTE Act 2009, candidates are going the extra mile to include other amenities as well.

"It is common knowledge that there no school buildings in some of prime areas. Where there are buildings, they do not have a proper drinking water supply. A playground is also missing in some schools," said Vishan Aggarwal, a Congress candidate from Sangam Vihar (east).

Child Rights and You (CRY), which has been working towards greater inclusive education in all sectors, has also taken stock of the situation.

In a charter of demands drafted and submitted to the MCD, the NGO has stated that greater political attention must be paid to child rights and larger issues affecting children in the city.
