He said the government, since February last, has been diligently pursuing German authorities for information relating to Indian tax payers who might be holding accounts with Liechenstein’s LGT Bank.
Advani had written to the Prime Minister in April last year to probe the matter. Singh had asked Chidambaram, then finance minister, to respond.
Releasing a copy of his letter to Advani, Chidambaram said he had informed Advani about the steps initiated by the government on the matter.
“My reply was direct, clear and unambiguous. As anyone can see, there was nothing evasive about my reply,” said Chidambaram in a signed statement on Monday.
