To begin with, 930 colonies will be issued certificates as they have got clearances from agencies concerned, officials of urban development department said.

An exercise is being conducted by the department to identify colonies that have come up on private land and those that are built on public land.

Directions have also been issued to start development work in all these colonies, as a number of residents living in such resettlement areas had protested in front of the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Stung by the defeat in the municipal polls, the Congress government is leaving nothing to chance. The urban development department has asked all authorities and the civic agencies to start sanitation and health related works.

“A final list has been complied of 930 colonies that will be phase-wise regularised from August. Boundary of all the 930 colonies has been fixed by the Survey of India (SoI),” said urban development minister Ashok Kumar Walia.

On Wednesday the urban development department also cleared the 42 unauthorised colonies where Resident Welfare Associations had submitted multiple layout plans and hence, were not getting clearance.

Of 1,639 resettlement colonies, provisional certificates were given to 1,218 in 2008.

For colonies that have come up over public land, property owners will have to pay the cost of the land for their area to get regularisation certificates.
