"Election Commission orders the suspension of district magistrate and superintendent of police of Bhind in Madhya Pradesh for violation of various instructions of the commission during assembly by-elections in the district," a release issued by the commission said.

The killing of Congress legislator Makhanlal Jatav during the April-May Lok Sabha polls resulted in a by-poll in the Gohad assembly constituency. The by-election was held Sep 10.

The Election Commission said the two officials were issued notices earlier asking them to give an explanation for their actions by September 11.
