The Standing Committee of the MCD is planning to impose either property tax or collect rent from the discoms for the transformers which are installed in many of their parks.

“The power distribution companies should pay us for the transformers they have installed as it is purely for commercial purpose. If they fail to do so, we will ask them to remove them,” said Yogender Chandolia, chairman, Standing Committee. He further said that in some of the parks, the Delhi Jal Board has also installed transformers and even they need to pay for its use.

The issue of maintenance of MCD parks was recently raised by the Standing Committee of the civic agency.

MCD maintains nearly 15,000 parks in the Capital.
