With trains on this line having stopped plying, the crowd swelled alarmingly at Rajiv Chowk, pushing and shoving so hard that some slipped and fell. Four people were so badly injured they had to be admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

“Three of them fractured their ankles and one has a broken right toe,” said a doctor requesting anonymity.

Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal, however, said the four had slipped when they got off the train that had stalled, and tried to walk along the tracks to the nearest station.

According to DMRC officials, the electricity supply of the affected train failed as soon as it left Rajiv Chowk for Dwarka Sector 9. This led to complete disruption of services.
