Police said the victim's initial medical examination revealed that she was pregnant.

"The victim has been identified as Neetu. A morning walker found her dead body at a park adjacent to her rented accommodation in Ramesh Nagar's Ramdhari Colony area at 7:30 a.m.," said Sagar Preet Hooda DCP (north).

According to police, Neetu's body had multiple external injury marks suggesting that she had been assaulted.

Police said a case had been registered and Neetu's husband has been arrested.

"The incident comes two years after she eloped with Amit Chandra (25) against the wishes of her family. The couple got married at an Arya Samaj Temple and had taken up a single-room flat in Ramdhari Colony subsequently," said a senior police officer from the investigation team.

Chandra works as an executive at a cellular services operator's showroom in north Delhi's Chandni Chowk.

"Though my husband had cut-off all contact with Neetu, I used to visit her and talk to her regularly over the phone. She used to tell me that her husband and in-laws used to repeatedly ill-treat her for dowry," claimed Gurjeet Kaur (47), Neetu's mother.

Kaur said regular altercations between the couple had gotten more frequent since Chandra's father had visited the couple at their rented accommodation.

"He had reached their house on August 9. Things between my daughter and her husband had started deteriorating from the day he arrived," she claimed.

She said her daughter would call her almost everyday to tell her that her father-in-law was creating problems between them on some pretext or the other.

Kaur alleged that her son-in-law was behind her daughter's death.

"He had made her life miserable since they got married. He is the only one she used to interact with as she used to be at home most of the time," said Kaur.

"He is the one who has killed my daughter."
