Gandhi's statement comes in the wake of an intense debate on whether Gandhi will reject the post in the event of Congress winning the 2014 elections.

It had all started with Gandhi saying that becoming a prime minister was "not priority," prompting a debate on what he meant.

"These are irrelevant questions. It's all smoke," Gandhi said.

"I got press guys asking when you are getting married. Somebody else saying, boss, when are you going to be the Prime Minister. Somebody saying, no, you are not going to be PM, somebody say may be you will be the PM. There is good possibility. It is like the American polling charts. 47.3% of possibility that he might be the Prime Minister..," Gandhi said, going on to elaborate on what was "relevant."

"The only relevant question in this country is how can we give our people voice?"

Describing his status of being born into the family of several prime ministers as an accident of fate, Gandhi said his only aim was to listen to the voices of people.

He said the Indian habit of tagging people on superfluous criteria can do no good for the society.

"We tag people as pro-poor or anti-business. But we have to take everyone along for the development of the country - the poor, the middle class and the industry."
