Hospital sources said Shreyas had returned with his parents to Ballabgarh from Pune a few days ago, and had developed flu-like symptoms here.

The child was brought to the government-designated BK Hospital for a check up on August 11, sources said.

Doctors sent his blood samples for tests. “We got an intimation on Friday last that the child has tested positive for swine flu,” said Dr Arvind Lohan, of BK Hospital.

He said the family resides in Pune and Shreyas had come to his mother’s paternal house in Ballabgarh a few days ago.

“The child is doing fine,” Dr Lohan added.

Doctors are monitoring the health status of the family members of the latest swine flu victim in Ballabgarh.

Pune tries to check spread

A worrying fact for Pune is that the city has become the chief exporter of the virus to other places in the country.

There have been other cases like that of software professional Mukesh Dangre (26), his wife, Suvarna Dangre (23) and student Lokesh Rajurkar (20).

They returned to Nagpur from Pune and during the last week tested positive.

Rupesh Deshpande, a virologist, feels that “some cases, that came up at other places must have travel history to Pune”.

Pune administration has appealed to people to stay in the city. “We have already asked authorities to instruct college hostels to not to allow students to go home,” said Ajit Pawar, district guardian minister.
