Police said several teams were working after guidelines were issued by the Delhi Medical Council to curb the activities of fake medical practitioners in different parts of Delhi.

The arrested man, Suresh Verma, was asked to produce relevant documents but failed to do so. Verma told police that he lost her mother in his childhood due to tuberculosis.

"The death of his mother inspired him to be a doctor. He studied up to 10th class and completed a diploma in Ayurveda from Uttar Pradesh in 1984. Later, he started his clinic posing as a doctor (MBBS degree holder). He would attend patients and prescribe them allopathic medicines," Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.
