According to officials at the India Meteorological Department, the persisting western disturbance is the reason for the high temperatures. “Once this passes, the temperatures will start falling.”

“We are also expecting some rainfall on Tuesday and over the coming weekend,” they said.

The Capital saw a maximum temperature of 27.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, four degrees above normal, while the minimum was 9.4 degrees, one degree above normal.

Last year, the maximum temperature at this time of the year was around 23 degrees, while the minimum was around 7 degrees. In 2010, the temperatures were between 21 and 7 degrees.

The temperature in the Capital has spiked in the last few days even though it saw a minimum temperature of 6.6 degrees on December 3.

According to the weatherman, the temperature will start dipping from next week after rains in the city.

The temperature is expected to be between 27 and 11 degrees on Tuesday. The sky is likely to be partly cloudy with chances of light rain.

Shallow fog is also expected in the morning.
