Rain, power cut hit flights
Since Sunday flights were delayed IGI Airport as the backlog continues till late on Monday due to bad weather and power failure at the airport, reports Vijaita Singh.
Since Sunday night more than 60 flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport as the backlog continued till late on Monday due to bad weather and power failure at the airport. Several flights had to remain airborne for about two hours and some were even diverted to Lucknow and Jaipur.
Officials said there was congestion in the ATC due to the bad weather. Most of the flights that were to land in Delhi were the worse affected. An Indian flight was cancelled. On Sunday night, there was chaos in the air, as several international flights failed to take off on time due to the sudden change in the weather. Weather officials said the city experienced “cyclonic turbulences” and the normal operation of flights was affected due to that.
Passengers complained that they were stranded at the airport for hours. Two Jet Airways flight to Ahmedabad and Bhopal were delayed for more than an hour on Monday. A Spicejet flight had to be diverted to Jaipur on Sunday night. The flight finally landed around 2.30 am on Monday.
