The accused, Vikram Singh (48), worked with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and was arrested by the probe agency on Tuesday night, while he was allegedly accepting the bribe from a complainant for not demolishing the second floor of a building owned by the latter, according to a CBI source.
During a search at Singh’s residence later, CBI officials belonging to its anti-corruption branch seized cash worth Rs 32 lakh from his possession.
“The accused is a beldar, a fourth-grade official with a meagre salary. The seizure of Rs 32 lakh cash from him is shocking and raises suspicion that he could have been involved in irregular activities for long,” said a CBI source.
Apart from the cash, the agency recovered documents related to two land plots worth several lakhs allegedly owned by Singh in northeast Delhi.
Along with Singh, the CBI also arrested another MCD employee, junior engineer Sardar Singh, in the case.
