The victims — who worked at a petrol pump in Dilshad Garden — were on their way to the bank to deposit the money when they were waylaid near the bustling residential and industrial area.

Police said there was meticulous planning behind the attack as the robbers seemed to know the exact route the victims took to the bank every day.

Sources said there were four robbers — who wore helmets — on two bikes. “While one bike tailed the car, a white Maruti Alto, the other waited at the hold-up spot, on the other side of the road,” a police officer said.

The first bike came in front of the Alto, forcing its driver, Jagmohan Singh alias Goldi, to stop. “The robbers asked him to open the door and opened fire when he didn’t.

Goldi and his colleagues Vinod Kumar and Jitender Kumar were injured while Puneet escaped unhurt. The robbers then snatched two bags full of cash and fled on the bike parked on the other side,” the officer said.

They left the first bike behind.

A bleeding Goldi drove out of the underpass but collapsed soon and hit a street vendor. “The victims are critical,” said Jitender Singh Shunty, Goldi’s cousin and the councillor from Jhilmil.
