Swami Aseemanand had suspected the hand of RSS leader Indresh Kumar in the murder of Sunil Joshi, the RSS pracaharak who allegedly controlled the group that planted bombs in Samjhauta Express, Ajmer Sharif and Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid, a witness has told investigators.
Joshi was shot dead on December 29, 2007 in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh and the state police has arrested some of Joshi’s associates recently.
‘This was handiwork of Indresh Kumar,’ said Swami Aseemanand – the mastermind of the terror gang – to his close associate Bharat Bhai Rateshwar, a day after Joshi’s murder. Rateshwar, now a key witness in the Ajmer blast case, has told this to investigators.
According to Rateshwar, he had a telephonic conversation with Aseemanand, who is now being interrogated by the national investigation agency (NIA) for his role in the Samjhuta blast. Bharat Bhai said Aseemanad sounded very agitated with the murder of Joshi and told him that Indresh Kumar had disliked Joshi.
When HT contacted Indresh Kumar, he refuted all allegations. He said that investigating agencies are committing a fraud in the name of investigation. “Government is in the dock, we are not. For the last three years, the government talked about involvement of SIMI, LeT, HUJI and ISI and then later on blamed Abhinav Bharat and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Srikant Purohit in these blasts and now suddenly, they are out and we are being investigated. They are blaming us on the basis of few statements made by some ‘naujawans’. We have more respect in the society than these politicians. We demand an open investigation into all allegations, this selective leaking should be done away with,” added a combative Indresh.
Indresh is one of the few ‘akhil bharatiya adhikaris’ of the RSS, which is considered topmost rung of office bearers in the organisation. Sources said after Joshi’s murder, a diary had been recovered from his belongings. HT is in possession of the diary. Indresh’s name and phone number figures in that diary. Sunil Joshi also used this diary for writing daily expenses of a group of people who were apparently on the move. Investigators believe that the dairy is an important piece of evidence in the Sunil Joshi murder case.
According to sources, if Swami Aseemanand was the brain behind saffron terror network, then Sunil Joshi was the execution arm of the network. Sources also believe that Joshi’s murder is intricately linked with the conspiracy to bomb the Samjhauta Express, the Dargah Ajmer Sharif and the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad . Madhya Pradesh police is investigating the Joshi murder case.
According to Madhya Pradesh police, Joshi was killed by his own men as he was ill-treating them. At the time of his murder Joshi was living with four persons who went by the name of Raj, Ghanshayam, Mehul and Ustad, which in all probability were their assumed names. Sources also believe that all four of them were accused of the 2002 anti-muslim riots in Vadodara in Gujarat . Of these four mysterious companions of Sunil Joshi, one was identified as Harshad Solani, who was using the name of Raj, was arrested by the Rajasthan ATS in connection with its probe into the Ajmer blasts case. Solanki was later on arrested by the Dewas police in connection with the Joshi murder case.
Sources alleged that Dewas police was never interested in knowing the truth behind killing of Joshi. Joshi was considered a loud mouth in his own circle. Immediately after the news of blast in Dargah Ajmer Sharif flashed on TV, Joshi had blown his own trumpet, claiming to at least two witnesses, one of them was Bharat Bhai, that it was ‘his work’. When Bharat Bhai informed Aseemanand about Joshi’s claim about the Ajmer blast, Aseemanand said Joshi is just a loud mouth. Sources believe that he was killed because he knew too much about the saffron terror network.
