Sharif calls Modi before open-heart surgery in London

NEW DELHI: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday underwent a successful open-heart surgery in a London hospital and has been moved to the intensive care unit for postoperative care.

Sharif ’s daughter Maryum Nawaz tweeted that the surgery, which lasted for over four hours, was successful. She also posted pictures of Sharif in the ICU after the operation.

“Surgery successful by The Grace Of Almighty. The Prime Minister is off the pump now. Will be shifted to ICU in the next 60 mins (sic) or so,” she wrote on Twitter.

On Monday, he telephoned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to thank him for his wishes for a quick recovery. “PM @ narendramodi receives phone call from PM Nawaz Sharif just before Pak PM is wheeled in for surgery. Wishes him a speedy recovery ,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

Mo di had on Saturday extended his best wishes to Sharif. “My best wishes to PM Nawaz Sharif Sahab for his open heart surgery on Tuesday. And for his speedy recovery & good health,” he tweeted.
