Days after she resigned as Kerala Governor, the Congress has rehabilitated former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit. She has been given the responsibility to implement the party’s programmes for Jawaharlal Nehru’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
A party spokeperson said, “The Congress president has approved Sheila Dikshit’s name as the chairperson of the implementation group for programmes related to Nehru’s 125th anniversary celebrations. Other members of the group will include Anand Sharma, Mohan Gopal, Jairam Ramesh and Mukul Wasnik. Wasnik will be the convenor.”
After her loss to the Aam Aadmi Party in the last assembly elections, Dikshit was appointed the Governor of the southern state at the fag end of the UPA government’s tenure. After assuming charge, the NDA regime had dropped enough hints that it did not want her to continue as Governor.
After her resignation, Dikshit had stated that she did not want to return to Delhi politics. With Dikshit being rehabilitated out of the party’s Delhi unit, it seems that the process of generational change in the Congress’s leadership in Delhi is irreversible.
