"It is a serious matter and the party has not given any statement on the issue. As he has resigned from the post of chairman of the parliamentary standing committee, we hope he will make a statement on for why has he resigned," BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.

Singhvi also resigned as the party spokesperson in the wake of the controversy over a CD allegedly featuring him. The resignation comes a day before the start of the second phase of Parliament's budget session on Tuesday.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that the matter "is nothing less that a casting couch" and Singhvi should explain it.
