CISF, which is responsible for the security at the airport across the country, trained its 20 personnel for a Crack Commando Team. The paramilitary force procured sophisticated weapons like MP5, Glock and Snipers for the commando team.
"This team will have four groups (five members each) and it will be posted at the airside of the Delhi airport. International terrorism is a reason to worry and airport is the most sensitive place. To counter any kind of eventuality, the additional force and gadgets has come for the Games," said a CISF official on the condition of anonymity.
The National Security Guards (NSG) has Glock, while CISF officials posted at VIP duties also have these pistols but such sophisticated weapons are being given to the airport staff for the first time.
Besides the crack commando team, five Quick Reaction Team are also present round the clock at the airport.
"The job of the team is to handle crisis situation and react during emergency. They are trained in anti-hijacking measures and also have AK-47. The crack commando team will be more advanced," he further said.
The Bomb Disposal Squad of CISF has also been upgraded and a scanner has been added.
"It will reduce the reaction time and help our personnel to analyze the suspected item and defuse it," he added.
