The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius, a degree below normal.

“Sundays are meant for shopping and eating out but the heat was unbearable and we had no choice but to stay back at home,” said Shruti Jha, a college student

According to the meterological department officials, Monday will not bring any relief as the temperatures are set to rise further.

But Tuesday onwards, one can expect the weather to be slightly better.

“Later in the week, due to western disturbances, the Capital can witness some dust and thunder storms,” said BP Jadav, Director, Weather Forecast, Indian Meterological Department.

Jadav said though the thunderstorm could bring down the temperature by a few degrees, it will not bring permanent relief.

Adding to the woes are frequent power cuts in some parts of the city and the National Capital Region for the past two days.

Parts of the trans-Hindon areas of Ghaziabad saw power cuts of up to 12 hours.
