Delhi University colleges have put in place security arrangements that they hope will effectively tackle the menace of eve teasing.

The move by the colleges comes in the backdrop of a growing number of eve-teasing cases on campuses.

The problem areas for the colleges are the some desolate stretches on the North and South. Police have been deployed in the areas.

“We have asked for police patrols. Women constables have been posted here because we receive reports of eve teasing at times.

Colleges have also taken steps to address stalking," said Gitesh Nirban, the media coordinator at Kamla Nehru College.

Police officers posted outside colleges said they were on the lookout for any suspicious activity on the campus. They also said attention was being paid to safeguarding the interests and safety of students from the Northeast.

“Students from the Northeast have been involved in several harassment cases. We ensure that patrols are conducted regularly, so that no student is harassed or teased. If we find someone troubling students, we arrest them immediately,” said a senior police officer posted outside Kirori Mal College.

This security measures comes at a time several students — especially those from the Northeast — have complained to DU officials about harassment and eve teasing.

“I had approached the college authorities because we are taunted even in public places. Even though the police officers often are as helpful as possible, the harassment continues even when we step out of college,” said a first year history student.
