The BJP Parliamentary Party on Tuesday condemned the “massacre” being carried out by China in Tibet and asked the UPA government to raise the issue at the UN and other international forums.

Addressing party MPs at a meeting, Leader of the Opposition LK Advani deplored that wherever communists were in power, they use brute force to crush all opposition and democratic protests. Charging the UPA Government with treating the Dalai Lama in India like an “untouchable”, he said all central ministers had been directed to keep away from functions attended by him so as to “please” the Left parties.India must put pressure on China to stop killing protestors in Tibet, he asserted.

Sharply criticising the Left parties for describing the crackdown in Tibet as an internal matter of a third country, senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh said the government's silence on the issue amounted to supporting the violation of human rights in Tibet.

The plight of controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen was also discussed.

The UPA government was accused of forcing her to leave the country under pressure from fundamentalists to appease the Muslim vote bank.

Party leader VK Malhotra said the MPs also urged the government to ensure the release of Indian death row prisoner in Pakistan Sarabjit Singh.
