The police identified the victim as Sanjeev Yadav, who teaches at an MCD school in southwest Delhi’s Nasirpur Village area.

“The incident occurred around 2 pm when Yadav knocked at the door of Chetan Bakshi, a resident at the Palam Village area,” said R.S. Krishnia, additional CP (southwest). Yadav said he was assaulted despite telling Bakshi that he was a government official on voter identification duty.

“I told an elderly woman who opened the door that I was there to verify their address. At this, she called her son Chetan, who along with another relative of his, started beating me up without rhyme or reason,” Yadav said.

“We have registered a case and arrested Bakshi for obstructing a government servant’s duty and are probing the involvement other members of his family in the incident,” Krishnia added.
