Light showers on Monday and Tuesday exposed chinks in the construction of newly built Terminal 3 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to sources, there were several complaints of the roof of the new hi-tech terminal leaking, affecting business at the busy terminal.
Sources said continuous leakage forced Air India, the national carrier, to close down its counter at the departure terminal and move elsewhere to carry out its routine work.
Sources added the problem was more severe near gate number one of the departure terminal where Delhi International Airport Limited, the agency developing and maintaining the new terminal, carrying out some construction work.
“Our check-in counter is located close to the place where the construction is on. We had to shut down our counter as soon as it started raining to prevent any damage to our equipment,” a senior Air India official said requesting anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media. Officials added the counter remained closed for more than an hour.
The airline had to close down another counter due to seepage. Airline officials said they their internal office in the area was affected by the seepage.
Closing down of the counter did not affect Air India’s normal work much. The official said the other counters were not affected by the leakage and resumed normal operations.
DIAL, however, denied any leakage.
“There has been no seepage or leakage at any part of the terminal. On Monday, condensation of droplets from one of the AC vents in the referred areas was observed and the same was immediately addressed with humidity control measures. Hence there is no question of any office having to close down on account of this reason,” a DIAL spokesperson said.
