The third day of the monsoon, Wednesday, brought chaos to Delhi’s roads, with waterlogging — thanks to choked drains — traffic jams and road cave-ins.

A major arterial road in South Delhi caved in at two points on the Aurobindo Marg stretch and was closed to traffic.

Long traffic gridlocks were seen all over South Delhi’s roads, and on most of major crossings in Gurgaon due to waterlogging. Commuters were stuck in traffic jams for hours.

“I started from Gurgaon at 3 pm and reached Delhi only at 7 pm,” said Preeti Singh, who lives in Ber Sarai, South Delhi. “Why can’t the civic agencies clean the drains before the monsoon? It is the same story every year.”

The rubble that has piled up due to the flurry of construction work currently being carried out added to chaos. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s control room was flooded with complaints.

Among the worst affected areas were Dhaula Kuan, R.K. Puram, Naraina, Hauz Khas, Chirag Delhi Flyover, the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road and Inderpuri.
