Following is a list of the train accidents in India since January 2011:


1) January 1, 2011

Amritsar-Sealdah Akal Takth Express in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district: 1 killed, 2 injured
The train driver missed the red signal at a level crossing and the train rammed into two trucks.

2) July 7, 2011
Mathura Chhapra Express in Thanagaon, Uttar Pradesh: 38 killed, 30 injured
The train rammed into a bus carrying wedding guests around 2 am at an unmanned railway crossing.

3) July 10, 2011
Howrah-Kalka Mail derailed near Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh: 70 killed, 300 injured

4) July 10, 2011
Guwahati-Puri Express derailed between Rangiya and Ghagrapar, Nalbari district, Assam: No casualties, 50 injured
An improvised explosive device was allegedly used by militants to trigger the blast that led to the derailment of the train.

5) July 31, 2011
Guwahati-Bangalore Express in Malda district, West Bengal: 3 killed, 200 injured
The train’s engine and coaches were hit by another train.

6) September 13, 2011
A Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) train rammed into Arakkonam-Katpadi passenger train at Chitheri station: 10 killed, 100 injured
The Arakkonam-Katpadi passenger train was waiting for a signal at Chitheri station, around 90km from Chennai, when a speeding MEMU train hit it from behind.

7) October 23, 2011
Speeding train ran over commuters at Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), 15 killed

8) Nov 22, 2011
At least seven persons including three women and two girl children were charred to death when two AC- 3 Tier bogies of the Howrrah- Dehradoon Express caught fire between Gomo and Nimiaghat Railway stations, about 50 km from the Divisional Railway headquarters of Dhanbad in Jharkhand.

9) March 20, 2012
Sixteen were killed on at unmanned railway crossing when a Tata Magic vehicle collided with speeding Kasganj Mathura passenger at about 7.30 am.

10) May 22, 2012
At least 25 passengers were killed and 55 injured after the Hubli-Bangalore Hampi Express overshot a signal and rammed a stationary goods train near a station in Andhra Pradesh around 3.10am.

Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express in Jaunpur district, UP: 4 killed, many injured
Seven bogies of the train derailed near Mahrawa railway station.
