Neha Bhatnagar, whose office is near the cinema, said work was affected because of the power cut. “The office’s backup power supply also failed after some time,” she said.

The tree that fell was at least 30 years old. Civic authorities took three hours to remove it from the site. According to the residents of the area, no property was damaged.

Rain since morning also led to the flooding of the basement of a house in the area.

“Construction was started at a nearby plot, for which a pit had been dug. As it was uncovered, water started flowing from the pit into our basement where we have our office. We are clueless what to do,” said Mahinder Pal, a resident of the flooded house.

Five trees were uprooted on Friday in Jangpura, Safdarjung Enclave, Mangolpuri and Azadpur.
