The CBI had recently requested the UP government to assign it a team of investigating officers from its police force as the agency was suffering from acute shortage of 'experienced' manpower, said a CBI source.
The state government recently gave its approval to CBI's request, he said. "The UP authorities have assigned a team of four deputy superintendents of police and eight inspectors to help us with the NRHM probe," the source added.
The UP government has also assured more help in future, if required by the CBI. "The NRHM probe requires investigators to do the usual fieldwork, collect bulky documents, scrutinise and verify them. It is a time-consuming, specialised job and we needed experienced investigators," said the source.
The CBI has also sought assistance from a senior official of the income tax department and a few chartered accountants to examine suspected financial transactions related to the NRHM irregularities.
The agency has so far registered 13 cases in the scam.
