Vajpayee, 85, was admitted to the VIP Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after he complained of difficulty in breathing on Tuesday night.

"There is improvement in Vajpayee's clinical condition. He has no fever and the lower respiratory tract infection is better," AIIMS Medical Superintendent D K Sharma told IANS.

A multi-disciplinary team of doctors led by Randeep Guleria, his personal physician and head of medicine at AIIMS, is monitoring Vajpayee.

"Vajpayee is non-diabetic and has no hypertension. The medical reports of blood, liver and kidney tests are normal," Sharma said.

Vajpayee will be staying in hospital for a few more days, his doctors said.
