A two-member committee comprising BJP state president O.P. Kohli, and in-charge of Delhi state, Thavar Chand Gehlot, have been authorised by the party’s election committee to select a candidate for the post.
The two have been seeking opinions of all BJP councillors since Friday and the process would continue on Sunday, too. Approximately 145 councillors had already given their views by Saturday.
“The councillors know the ground situation better. We have sought each one’s opinion,” Gehlot told HT on Saturday.
He, however, did not reveal the names being discussed and said, “We will announce the candidate on Monday.”
Monday, April 26, is the last day to file nominations for the post of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and three members for the MCD Standing Committee. The election is on April 30.
