A vacation well spent
Writing for DU Beat, working for special children, attending Zumba fitness and kathak classes, reading books and shopping kept our campus journalists occupied in the last two monthseducation Updated: Jul 24, 2012 17:17 IST

I joined DU Beat as a writer. It is an independent student newspaper that reports everything that is quintessentially DU. From the cool hangout zones, to college fests, internship updates, student elections, I wrote about everything! I also joined WORDZ, a student organisation that conducts debates and model united nations conferences in schools and colleges. I also enrolled for a diploma in kathak at the Kathak Kendra.

After my Class 12 exams, I wanted to do something constructive. So I joined a charitable spastic school for children. My confusion and miseries turned into a cheerful learning experience. Helping them around with games, blocks or puzzles painted a completely beautiful picture of life. Interacting and spending time with these kids made me realise the worth of every little gift of God which goes unnoticed.

In my dictionary, the word ‘holiday’ is synonymous with heaven! Lying in bed till late, watching TV without the guilt that usually accompanies it and getting things done at my own pace is my ideal way of living! Apart from running around for the admission process, I have been catching up on my reading. There have been several additions to my college wardrobe too, thanks to lots of shopping.
Shreya Mudgil,Mount Carmel School
It was relaxing to sit in the Jawaharlal Nehru Library and read without any distraction. Besides reading, I watched some great movies like Driving Miss Daisy and The Sixth Sense. I also took driving lessons. Shopping for college was my favourite activity during this break. The best thing I did was to take care of my two beautiful rabbits, Jude and Prudence. I learnt to be more responsible.
Ankita Chander,St Thomas School
I lived every student’s dream — a dream to watch movies and TV shows all day while sitting on the couch. My trip to Australia was one of the most memorable vacations I have ever had! Apart from that, in order to shed the extra pounds that I gained during Boards (while following the ‘sit, study, eat’ regime), I attended Zumba fitness classes and played basketball with my friends every evening.
Gargi,Air Force Bal Bharti School
My life in the last month-and-a-half has been an endless party, with a few pre and post admission jitters! I watched all the latest flicks like Cocktail and The Amazing Spiderman. And we visited all malls in the Delhi/NCR region to buy good clothes for college! Birthday parties and admission treats were regular affairs. I also revisited my school, teachers and classmates. Facebook, Twitter and late night texting were also common.
