DU gets 65,000 more forms, cut-offs to rise

With 65,000 more applications than last year, the varsity has received 2,10,000 applications - a number which, officials say, is likely to rise on Wednesday - the last day for filing applications.

And with just 54,000 seats on offer, officials say the high number of applications will raise cut-offs for most courses.

"Cut-offs are likely to go up for most courses, especially BTech courses, as students now prefer to study pure sciences for four years than opting for traditionnal engineering or medicine courses," said JM Khurana, dean students' welfare, DU.

It will also be harder to get into Journalism and MCom courses, which earlier inducted students through an entrance test, but will now decide the intake on the basis of cut-offs.
