About the institution: The university is only for women and is aimed at their empowerment. The university was established by social reformer Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve.
Every year more than 11,000 women, on average, pass from the Centre for Distance Education (CDE). The centre has taken several initiatives like ‘Education on Wheels’ and ‘Mobile Education’. Keeping pace with the IT revolution in today’s world, the university has introduced professional IT courses in distance education. It has introduced the first diploma in BPO skills (call centre management) in the distance mode, along with six technical graduate and post-graduate courses in IT.
Fees range: BA: R1,400 a year; BCom: R1,400 a year; MA in all subjects: ranges from R2185 to R1790; MPhil in sociology: R 21,500 for the whole course; BCA: R15,000 a year; PG diploma in HRM: R15,500; diploma in BPO skills: R4,000 (nine months)
Support systems/ facilities for students: The centre provides printed guidance material in 14 different subjects in the BA course, 11 subjects in BCom, 14 subjects under University Entrance Test, and the courses prescribed for certificate programmes. These are provided in four mediums (English, Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi) for undergraduate courses in arts and in English medium for the undergraduate courses in commerce.
For MA programmes, the centre provides guidance material in most of the subjects. In social science subjects, guidance is provided in English medium only. Students can avail of the personal contact programmes in Mumbai, Pune, and Dombivali. Assignments sent by distance learners are corrected and returned along with feedback by subject experts.
Total no. and list of study centres: For distance learners, there is only one main study centre, which is located on the campus. But personal guidance and contact programmes are organised and provided for as per the need (of students) at convenient locations.
