Shamik Chowdhury, a 29- year-old PhD student in environmental engineering from the National University of Singapore was among 25 scholars awarded for their innovative green ideas by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Award winners for Green Talents - International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development.

Chowdhury was selected for Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development because of his interdisciplinary research combining urban sustainability, resource efficiency, cleaner production and eco-innovation. He wants to create green technologies based on renewable feedstocks to promote a sustainable city life.

His research focus is: Green synthesis of 2D graphene nanosheets (thinnest two-dimensional material) and their self-assembly into advanced 3D macrostructures for sustainable urban development. The jury was impressed by his innovative approach to advancing sustainability in urban cities.
