A total of 15187 students of the 16959 who appeared for the Class 12th examinations organised by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, cleared the examination giving a pass percentage of 89.59%

Girls trumped boys as 91.97% of the girls passed the Goa board exam while 86.91% of boys passed. Of the total 17876 candidates who answered the exam, 9308 were girls and 8568 boys.

The Goa Board examination was held between February 28 and March 27 across 17 centres and saw 4117 Arts candidates, 5173 Commerce candidates, 4819 science candidates and 2843 vocational candidates.

15% students of those who passed, achieved marks in the range of 75-100%, 60-71, 40% got marks between 60-74%, 35% students got marks between 45-59% and 7% students got marks between 33-44%.

In the arts stream, 3612 students passed giving the arts pass percentage at 87.73. In commerce 4752 of the 5173 students passed giving a pass percentage of 91.86. In science, the pass percentage was 91.76 as 4422 of the 4819 students who appeared passed.

Last year 18499 candidates were registered and the pass percentage was 85.84%.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tweeted his congratulations to all the students who passed their exams.

“Your hard work, patience and persistence have finally paid off. Those who did not make it, don’t be disappointed, the experience will help you to be better prepared for your next attempt. Wishing everyone all the very best for your future education,” Sawant said.

The pass percentage of 89.59 this year is the second highest in the last five years coming second to the 90.10% pass percentage that was secured in 2016.

The Goa Board also awards ‘sports marks’ for students who represent their schools or the district or state at the state and national level sporting competitions.

This year 3093 students were benefitted with sports marks while 114 students of 0.75 of the students passed because of the sports marks they were awarded.
