ISC Class-12 result: YPS boys top in science streams in Chandigarh tricity
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations declared the results on Monday. Upmanyu, a non-medical student, scored 97.75% while Pranav Raj of medical stream got 95.5% to excel in their respective streams.
Upmanyu Yaddanapudi and Pranav Raj of Yadavindra Public School (YPS), Mohali, have topped in science streams in the tricity in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination held for Class 12.

Besides YPS, Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, and St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, Chandigarh are affiliated to the board in the tricity.
Daughter of an advocate couple, Samkiti Jain of Strawberry Field has outshined others in the humanities stream by scoring 97.25%. Ravleen Malhotra of St Xavier’s has scored the same to top in the commerce stream.
An engineering aspirant, Upmanyu said: “The best is yet to come.” He credited his parents — both doctors in the anaesthesia department at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical and Education Research — for his success. Upmanyu is appearing for selection to Chennai Mathematical Institute, a centre of excellence for teaching and research in mathematical sciences, on Tuesday.
His schoolmate and medical stream topper Pranav Raj aspires to be a doctor. His father is a businessman while mother is an assistant professor at Dev Samaj College. “I am really happy about my results. Now my focus is on achieving the target of becoming a surgeon,” he said.
Class-10: Harman first as tricity gets 100% result
With 97.6% marks, Harman Sandhu of St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, Chandigarh, bagged the top position across tricity in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination for Class 10, the results of which were declared by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Monday.
The 15-year-old daughter of a doctor couple resides in Kansal and has scored a perfect 100 in social studies.
Meanwhile, Adavya Bhutani of St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, Chandigarh, came second with 97.4% while Muskan Lohchab of Little Flower Convent School, Sector 14, Panchkula, secured the third position with 97% marks.
The tricity has five other schools affiliated to the board: Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, and Tender Heart School, Sector 33, in Chandigarh, YPS School, Sector 51, Mohali, and St Xavier’s High School, Sector 20, and Saupin’s School, Sector 9, in Panchkula. Around 1,000 students appeared for the exam.
Even as the tricity has recorded 100% result, the top score has dropped over the years — from 98.4% in 2016 to 98% in 2017 to 97.6% in 2018. However, second year running girls have outshined boys in occupying the top spot.
Harman said concentration and consistency is her key to success. She attended no coaching class and instead concentrated on studies at school.
“For the past four months, I devoted 10 hours a day to studies, taking breaks for a stroll or watching ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ or listening to soft music,” she said. “My teachers, parents and grandfather in particular inspired me. He taught me mathematics.”
“I am extremely proud of my students,” said Mervin West, principal of St Xavier’s School.
Meanwhile, Adavya considers his achievement as first step towards achieving his dream of making a mark in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
“We expected this performance from him,” said his father, Dr Vikas Bhutani, who is director, internal medicine, at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. His mother, Dr Anjali Bhutani, heads lab services at Max Hospital, Mohali.
The Panchkula boy has now enrolled in Strawberry Field’s International Baccalaureate diploma programme and wants to go the US thereafter.
A resident of Sector 28, Chandigarh, Muskan, who has come third, is the daughter of public prosecutor Gobinder Singh Lohchab.
“I am very excited. I dedicated myself towards studies and always focused on what my teachers told me. Their guidance helped me to achieve this goal,” she said. A football lover and a fan of Shahrukh Khan movies, Muskan said she remained away from distractions such as Facebook and preferred to unwind with her hobbies such as painting.
