Students and parents feel that counselling after the results is very important.education Updated: Apr 25, 2016 16:43 IST
More than fifteen lakh students in Maharashtra could be planning their first career move with the results of the first-of-its-kind aptitude test conducted by the Maharashtra state board of secondary and higher secondary education (MSBSHSE) to be declared on Monday .
“This was the first time such an aptitude test was conducted. So, it is very difficult to know how it will be received by the parents. The test was conducted well and hopefully, the results too shall be satisfying. However, we must know that what is more important in aptitude test is the one-on-one counselling. If the counselling, as told to us, will be conducted, only then will the purpose be met” said Meenakshi Walke, principal of IES Secondary school in Bhandup.
Students and parents feel that counselling after the results is very important. “My daughter studies in Saraswati Marathi medium school in Thane where, as a practice the school conducts aptitude test privately for years now. However, with this years’ aptitude test, students do get a scope for making a better decision. It is a positive movement from the government, given that the one-on-one counselling shall take place” said Mugdha Risbud, a parent.
“I am eagerly waiting for the results of the aptitude test to come. I have been confused with which stream to take and these results shall help me in deciding the same” said a student from Holy Family high school in Chembur who did not wished to be named.
MSBSHSE conducted one-of-its kind aptitude test for all the schools in Maharashtra in February. All the schools under MSBSHCE conducted this test for students to make an informed choice of their career. This aptitude test was applicable for the 15, 47,253 students who appeared for their tenth board exams from the state in March 2016. The decision for conducting an aptitude test project was taken in 2015.
However, teachers say it can’t be called as an aptitude test but it was more of an interest inclination test. “This test was more of a test to determine the interest of the kid. It can’t be termed reliable. However, it all will depend on the counselling for students” said Uday Nare, teacher of Hansraj Morarjee Public School, Andheri.
The aptitude test report will, however, be given along with the mark sheet.
