Nanotech, web craft in DU soon

Come 2006, and Delhi University students will be able to study lucrative courses like nanotechnology and web designing.

Come 2006, and Delhi University (DU) students will be able to study lucrative courses like nanotechnology and web designing. The new courses were given the go-ahead by Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deepak Pental.

Some colleges have also enhanced the course content of common courses in the science and arts streams. These newly introduced courses are — add on courses or undergraduate courses.

Maitreyi College consulted President APJ Kalam on its courses in nanotechnology. Principal Dr Savita Mohan Datta told HT, “We are trying to make the new courses interesting, student friendly and also informative.” The college will introduce two more courses in food technology and web design.

These are self finance courses and their duration is five months. The UGC had gave them Rs 4 lakh to buy equipment. Similarly, Laxmibai College is all set to offer a course in apparel designing. Miranda House and Mata Sundari College have introduced a course in Elementary Education.

Other interesting courses include BSc (Hons) Geology at Ram Lal Anand (Morning); BA (Hons) Mathematics at DR College; a certificate course in Hindi journalism at Zakir Hussain College.
