The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will soon start a course for training teachers in conflict resolution. The course is being started with the aim of undermining violence and aggression among children.
Introduced for the first time in the National Curriculum Framework (2005), the training module entails inculcating values of peace among students through the teachers.
“The programme is for teachers who will serve as role models. They will instill the values through interaction with the students," said Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Foundations of Education at the NCERT, Sushama Gulati.
The course, scheduled to start on May 30, also tries to inter-relate violence with non-violence. “Students will be told how a violent situation can be avoided through other means,” Gulati said.
“Crimes by students is a global concern. If they are trained in social justice, human rights and harmony, they will restrain themselves from any conflict with law,” she added.
