Rugby is set to make an entry into the DU lexicon soon and this is great news for sports enthusiast set to join St Stephen's and Ramjas College. The two DU colleges have been short-listed by the Commonwealth Games co-ordination committee for providing training facility to international and national players.

Rugby practice pitch of international standards will come up at both the colleges. The DU cricket oval is also going to be converted into a full-fledged rugby ground.

The colleges have been reportedly promised a grant of Rs 2 crore each for developing the pitch and other incidental facilities like fitness rooms, shower stalls and recreation centres along with the games pitch.

"Our present football field facing Hindu College has been identified for the rugby pitch. There will also be two changing rooms, a small fitness centre, a reading room and a recreation room," said Clement Rajkumar, HoD, physical education, St Stephen's College.

The college has also offered its judo hall for setting up a fully equipped fitness centre. Ramjas College is the other college identified for the grant by the Commonwealth Games co-ordination committee.

"Rugby is a very popular game in almost all the Commonwealth countries. The games pitch in these two DU colleges will set the pace for the arrival of rugby in India," said a Ramjas College official.
