Scottish experience
The Saltire Scholarships can partly fund your education in Scotland
Planning to study in the UK? You can then easily think beyond England, as there are some reputable academic institutions in Scotland, such as the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Queen Margaret (in Musselburgh). In a recent report commissioned by the British Council, 86 per cent of university students surveyed would recommend the Scottish experience to others.
For those put off by the steep costs of studying abroad, the Saltire Scholarship can be a good option, though it does not relieve you of the entire financial burden. About 200 awards, each worth £2,000, are given as tuition fee for a one-year Master’s course at any of Scotland’s higher education institutions.
To get the scholarship, you have to choose a full-time course that is delivered in Scotland, not online or by distance learning. You can choose up to three universities/courses to apply to and must have a conditional offer of a place at a Scottish university on an eligible course.
The chosen areas of study include science, technology, arts and creative industries, financial services, renewable and clean energy. Along with the application, also prepare a 350-400 word essay on ‘Why you have chosen to study in Scotland and your reasons for choosing to study at a particular institution and course of study’.
The last date to apply for the scholarship is June 11, 2010. To apply, contact
