UGC asks Kolhan University to start diploma course in environment

Undergraduate students will study seven topics related to environment along with field visit in forests, riversides and other natural sites, surrounded with flora and fauna.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed Kolhan University to start compulsory diploma course for all students from 2019 under which the students will get the opportunity to study about environment with practical classes in natural atmosphere.

Undergraduate students will study seven topics related to environment along with field visit in forests, riversides and other natural sites, surrounded with flora and fauna. They will conduct outdoor classes in most polluted places; collect information about local available plants, forest species and ecosystem of the locality.

The KU will start six months diploma course on Environmental Science. Students of any stream and department will go through the subject as the UGC intends to make students aware about environment. Through a letter, the UGC has directed the KU to spread environment protection awareness .

VC of University, Shukla Mahanty, said the academic council will take it up further so that students could smoothly take up the classes. “The university intends to start this course from the upcoming session and let the students be equipped with the environment protection measure,” she added.
